Scaffolding Kent's new Energy from Waste Plant

Alltask has now passed 18 months of continual presence on Kent’s largest energy from waste plant.  The project consists of 3 Waste Incinerators/boilers (fluidised bed technology), one Steam Turbine and aims to process 500,000 tonnes municipal solid waste per year.

The project, for Europe’s largest construction company, has involved a permanent site presence of over 50 scaffold operatives over its duration to date. Tight timescales, continuous slip-forming operations, 24-hour and double shift working have all been absorbed into the day-to-day workings of this flagship project.

We have erected some 15,000m2 of traditional and system scaffold for the external cladding works, as well as several thousand square metres on the concrete structures.

Also, we have offered a full support & shoring solution for the vast concrete pours and 24-hour slip forming operations that the project has demanded.  To date we have erected circa 16,000m3 of GASS shoring as well as various Kwikstage support packages.  Our scope of work includes installation of the support system from base jacks to secondary aluminium datum levels ready for ply fixing (by others).

For Alltask, it has been an opportunity to demonstrate our ability and agility to work on a large scale project whilst offering ultimate flexibility for our client and the end user via close working relationships at site and office level.

The project follows Kent County Council’s (KCC) decision to adopt a waste strategy with the key aim of reducing the County's reliance on landfill. Landfills in the County were filling up and waste was being hauled by trucks to Essex for disposal. The situation was not sustainable. 

Alltask are a preferred bidder on KCC’s Preferred Contractor Scheme.
