Here is a message from the chairman, Doug Shearer....

Doug Shearer

Chairman

I'm Doug Shearer and I am the Chairman of Alltask.

Danny (see his message here) and I co-own the company and have built up the company from a small local scaffolding contractor (Daniels Scaffolding DSL) to today's Multi tasking turn-key provider. In the 2008 edition of the Plimsoll Business analysis Alltask are credited as being the 24th largest in the UK market and the 19th most profitable, not too bad for a scaffolder and a lagger putting their skills and knowledge together 20 years previous.

As a scaffolder myself I still believe that DSL's success was based upon service, I instilled in everyone from the very start that the image of scaffolders was very poor (discipline of the men, no safety management, failing to turn up when promised etc etc) I made it my absolute priority to change this image if only for my own company. I know now that this was the key to our success and why we were able to gain a large market share in a very short time. Due to this success with the scaffolding we both believed we could bring this ethos to other disciplines within our industry and better than many providers at the time.

Danny and I sat down and asked ourselves where we want to go and where we want to take the company. We both realised that the sectors we were working in lacked one very important ingredient, and that was a contractor that could take on a client’s full range of required services on a turn key order "basically a one stop shop". This was the catalyst for the birth of ALLTASK and the name change, and has proved very successful, particularly the projects that needed the combined services of scaffolding, insulation (lagging) and industrial coatings. Another sector that has felt the benefit of combined disciplines has been the house building market which benefits the client to have both disciplines provided by one contractor, cutting out the programme issues and contra charges.

Obviously staff had to be recruited in their respective fields to man these divisions up, our home page "meet the staff" shows the calibre of those we recruited. I am particularly proud that we as a company tend to retain our staff more so than others, this not only benefits ourselves but our clients. Many of our staff have been with us from the earliest days and are in fact "Alltask" to our clients. As owners of the company neither Danny nor I have ever felt threatened about this, and feel this is the most efficient way for a company to grow and do business with a long term client, the feed back we receive is clients prefer to deal with familiar faces who know what they want and what to deliver.

In the evolvement of the company and the sudden growth we enjoyed, we obviously could no longer carry out every aspect of the business between ourselves and we set about identifying certain individuals that we felt could not only be promoted into senior positions but also had the same client friendly/service ethos that we have always believed necessary. For this reason I identified Scott West as a future director of the scaffolding division. Scott’s role is to compliment the busy scaffolding division as the contracts director and also to build his own client list and relationships.

Scott and I work closely together at all times, sometimes Scott is the lead member of staff on particular scaffold contracts and others it will be me. We have made every effort not to ring fence any particular type of scaffolding service or contracts to either, which gives us both a broader view of what is going on at all our contracts and are available to assist on all contracts.

Feel free to contact either of us to discuss your needs or forthcoming requirements, between us we have a wealth of experience to offer and the will to provide you with the type of service that you should expect at all times. After all our success is repeat business.

Regards

Doug Shearer
