Lambeth Road Bridge forms part of a key transport route in central London and is currently undergoing refurbishment works to preserve and protect the structure for the future. Alltask was appointed by our client Volker SRE to supply and install a specialist scaffolding solution to provide safe access for blasting and painting works across the bridge.
The project involves a two-span bridge structure and requires a carefully planned phased approach to ensure works can be carried out safely and efficiently while minimising disruption within a busy urban environment.
The refurbishment programme requires comprehensive access to both bridge spans to enable surface preparation and protective coating works. Due to the location and configuration of the structure, the scaffold design needed to accommodate multiple phases while providing secure working platforms and environmental controls throughout the project.
In addition, the scaffold package required integrated water containment measures to support the blasting operations and prevent runoff from entering the surrounding environment.
Alltask installed a bespoke access scaffold solution tailored to the bridge structure and programme requirements. Working collaboratively with the project team, Alltask also contributed to the development of the support towers for the bridge spans and fabricated a specialist guttering system to support the project’s water containment requirements.
The next stage of the project involves the installation of external parapet bridge spans. These sections have been pre-built at Swains Depot to minimise installation time on site and are scheduled to be transported to London and lifted into position during planned night shifts.
Supporting the project, Alltask’s Thermal Division fabricated and installed a specialist guttering system to provide effective water containment during the blasting and painting operations, demonstrating the collaborative approach between our service divisions.
Outcome
The project continues to progress in line with programme requirements, with Phase 1 successfully completed and preparations underway for Phase 2. Through detailed planning, off-site fabrication and close collaboration between divisions, Alltask is providing a safe and efficient access solution to support the refurbishment of this important infrastructure asset in central London.
