The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has launched a major national campaign to inspect how local authorities are managing asbestos across their property portfolios — a move that could significantly influence future workloads and demand for specialist asbestos contractors like Alltask.
As part of the campaign, HSE inspectors will assess whether councils are meeting their legal duties under Regulation 4 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 by inspecting hundreds of council-owned buildings, including schools, libraries, museums, and leisure centres.
The campaign, titled “Asbestos – Your Duty,” began in January 2024 and targets buildings constructed before 2000, particularly those from 1950 to 1980 — the period when asbestos use was most prevalent. The inspections are intended to ensure asbestos is properly identified, managed, and not left to deteriorate or pose a risk to building users.
With a large percentage of Alltask’s work undertaken in the social housing sector, this development has the potential to drive inspection-driven remediation works, particularly across ageing council stock.
Alltask is well positioned to respond quickly and effectively to any recommendations — from re-inspections and updated surveys to encapsulation, removal, and safe disposal. Whatever your asbestos concern, our specialist management service can confidently guide you through the entire process, offering expert advice and support from start to finish.
