Natural History Museum, London
Alltask has undertaken works at the Natural History Museum, London, providing access solutions to support façade repair and cleaning works to the building’s terracotta elevations.
The scheme utilised rolling access birdcages, enabling works to be carried out in phases rather than installing a full façade scaffold. This approach reduced the visual impact on the building while maintaining safe and continuous access for repair works.
Due to the building’s listed status, the design avoided intrusive ties, and all works were undertaken while the museum remained fully operational.
Additional works have included the installation of temporary roofing systems to protect the building fabric during refurbishment activities.
Natural History Museum at Tring
At the Natural History Museum at Tring, Alltask delivered a scaffolding and temporary works package to facilitate roof, window and façade repairs.
The works included the installation of a temporary roof over the Rothschild Library, supported by an internal birdcage scaffold and external access scaffold.
The Rothschild Library (which forms part of the Ornithology Library and Special Collections of the Natural History Museum) is located at the Walter Rothschild Building in Tring and required protection throughout the programme.
Independent access scaffolding enabled repairs to stonework, brickwork, hanging tiles and timber elements. Due to the building’s heritage status, the scaffold design incorporated non-invasive methods, including buttresses and kentledge, to avoid fixing into the structure.
The project was delivered within a live environment with restricted access and controlled delivery schedules to minimise disruption to museum operations.
National Maritime Museum
Alltask has delivered works at the National Maritime Museum, providing access solutions to support maintenance and refurbishment activities within a sensitive heritage environment.
As with other museum projects, the works required a non-intrusive scaffold design and careful planning to ensure the building remained operational throughout the programme.
The solution provided safe and efficient access for ongoing works while minimising impact on visitors and the surrounding environment.
